Benefits Of Hardwood

The advantages that Hardwood Flooring gives to your home are extensive. Beautiful and long-lasting, hardwood floors make an elegant choice for nearly any room in your home. When choosing hardwood, the color, grade, texture, and construction type are important factors to consider.

Rich and inviting, hardwood makes a distinctive statement.

Because of a great range of natural variations: from boards with extreme character, graining, and color variation to those that are evenly colored and consistent, lustrous hardwood can create a uniquely beautiful floor. Your kind of floor. Warm, stylish, and original.

Hardwood Floor Color

The colour of hardwood floors ranges from quite light to intensely dark—and everything in between. While, as a rule, lighter floors work well in contemporary settings and darker floors are elegantly at home in more traditional rooms, choosing is essentially a matter of preference. Choose from popular colors including espresso, blonde, honey, grey, and more!

Hardwood Floor Grain and Texture

Naturally present in hardwood, grain variations help determine a wood’s “personality.” Dramatic grain suggests a rustic feeling, more knotted hardwood is considered Country Chic. We offer a variety of hardwood species and textures so you can find the perfect style for every room.

  • Hand-scraped hardwood
  • Wire-brushed hardwood
  • Smooth hardwood

Hardwood Floor Construction

There are two basic choices—solid or engineered. Solid planks are created from a single piece of wood and make a handsome floor that lasts for years. In Alberta’s climate solid hardwood should be limited to a 4″ width at most. Engineered planks can be much wider, and have layered construction to provide stability. They are designed to withstand higher levels of humidity, and some engineered hardwood can be used in a glue-down application.

Hardwood Options

There are many differences in hardwood flooring finishes; like different gloss levels, textures, and wood options. Learn about solid vs engineered hardwood products. We carry popular species including white oak, red oak, maple, birch, and walnut.

Protect the Natural Beauty of Your Sierra Hardwood Flooring

At Sierra Flooring, we specialize in the sale and installation of Hardwood flooring. We also carry specialty cleaners for hardwood, to protect your investment for years to come.  A few simple maintenance steps, however, will help protect your investment and keep your Sierra Hardwood flooring looking like new.
  • Use a lightly damp cloth to blot spills, and spots as soon as they happen. Always avoid allowing liquids to stand on your floor.
  • Sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly with the hard floor brush attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt or grit that can scratch, or dull the floor finish.
  • Occasionally wipe the floor with a very lightly moist cloth.
  • Periodically clean the floor with hardwood care products also available from Sierra.
  • Each manufacturer has their own recommendations to be followed to maintain their warranty.
  • Don’t use oil based, wax, polish, or strong ammonia or abrasive cleaners.
  • Don’t use steel wool or scouring powder.
  • Don’t wash or wet-mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty.
  • Don’t use any type of buffing machine.
  • Each manufacturer has their own recommendations to be followed to maintain their warranty.
  • For tough stains, use the cleaner or method as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Use protective mats.
  • Use floor protectors on furniture.
  • Maintain a relative humidity level as recommended by the hardwood manuafacturer.
  • Avoid sharp or pointed objects directly on your hardwood floor.
  • Protect the floor when moving any large or heavy object; use a dolly or a protective mat.
